Insightsthe blog of Porter Hills
Up Close and Personal
As I began to write this article about Porter Hills Home Care, I did not realize that I would completely scrap the first draft and write about a personal experience.
Recently, my mother fell.
I spent one afternoon taking her for x-rays and the following day my best friend took her to the doctor. They called me from the office, told me she would need some equipment in her home to help during her recovery, and that a competitor’s home care had been assigned to deliver services! As you can imagine, I almost screamed in shock. The only reason they were alerted was that my mom pulled out her I Prefer Porter Hills card. She had randomly been assigned another agency without being asked her preference.
My mom has since been receiving wonderful services from Porter Hills Home Care – equipment, therapy, some private duty, and a Life Connections personal alert system. The nurses, caregivers, aides, and administration are caring, courteous, professional and knowledgeable.
As part of my role, I try to coach my team in the best practices of selling our Home Care services, enabling home-bound patients to receive excellent care and giving them and their families peace of mind. We repeatedly try to tell our customers that they have a choice and encourage everyone to sign up for an I Prefer Porter Hills card to communicate with the hospitals and doctors. I didn’t think this would happen to my family – but it did.
Are you prepared?
Many of my mom’s friends wanted to know how they could get a card and prevent this from happening to them.
Do you have an I Prefer card?
The I Prefer Porter Hills Program is a free service that helps declare your choice to those involved with your health care decisions. Our coordinators will assist with all of your pre- and post-hospitalization needs and advocate on your behalf if necessary.

Sometimes our needs require assistance or care after an injury, illness or planned surgery. As Glinda, the good witch says, “There’s no place like home.” And Porter Hills Home Care is just the answer you may need.
