President/CEO of Porter Hills to Retire
Larry Yachcik, President and CEO of Porter Hills, has announced his retirement with a projected date of September 30, 2017. For ten years, his visionary leadership led to remarkable growth creating vibrant, compassionate faith based communities for seniors across all socio-economic levels.
“Larry brought a commitment to serve all seniors, those with varying financial resources,” said Cynthia A. Havard, the Chair of the Porter Hills governing board. “He led the organization to develop innovative programs and joint ventures, such as the Green House® Homes, the Program for All Inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE), Emmanuel Hospice, and TANDEM365. During his tenure, care services were enhanced in six existing Housing and Urban Development Communities, and the Assisted Living and Memory Care provided by Meadowlark Retirement Village in Sparta, MI.
Yachcik also laid the foundation for long term sustainability and operational focus at Porter Hills by engaging Mennonite Health Services, or MHS Consulting, to assist in a multi-phase process of strategic planning and business-line analysis. The Board and Leadership team pledged continued support for moving that process forward.
“I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to serve at Porter Hills. It has been humbling to work with a strong Leadership team and capable Boards,” Yachcik said. “As I look forward to entering the next phase of life, I know that Porter Hills is in good, capable hands.”
Board members highlighted the fact that Yachcik was gifted at growing leadership across the organization. “Because of his leadership, Porter Hills has a strong Governing Board, an engaged Foundation Board, and a highly competent and capable Leadership team,” noted Havard. “This Leadership team is well-equipped for the next organizational chapter.”
Havard, who became Board Chair in 2015 is the COO and CFO of Cole’s Quality Foods, said the Board will establish opportunities to celebrate Yachcik’s accomplishments and wish him well. In addition, she noted that the Board will work with MHS, the consulting firm leading the strategic planning process, to assist in the transition process.
Yachcik joined Porter Hills in 2008. During his tenure, Porter Hills received many awards, testimony to the caliber of that leadership. In 2017, for the 15th consecutive year, Porter Hills was named one of the “West Michigan’s Best & Brightest Companies to Work For.” The readers of Grand Rapids Magazine paid tribute to Porter Hills by awarding it as “Best Retirement Community” in Grand Rapids on six separate occasions.
The professional staff at Porter Hills, a care provider of choice in West Michigan, touches the lives of more than 2,000 people every day. Porter Hills, which has been in operation for nearly 50 years, is committed to serving as a national leader and partner in senior services.
